LIBRARY RULES

Pupils

  1. The library is for study and research. Eating, drinking, playing, sleeping, making visual aids, and group discussions are not allowed.
  2. Silence, cleanliness, and orderliness must be observed.
  3. Cell phones and other electronic communication gadgets must be set to silent mode while inside the library; answering/making calls should be done outside the library.
  4. Books should be left on the table after use.
  5. Periodical materials like magazines, newspaper, etc. and general reference books are to be used in the library only.
  6. Pupils are accountable for the library materials that they use or borrow and should avoid borrowing books for their friends. Library materials should be handled with care.
  7. Lost books and books damaged beyond repair should be paid based on the current price of the book with an additional processing fee. If the pupil decides to replace them, the following should be met:
    • The same title, author, and edition or the latest available edition of the lost/damaged book.
    • Reprinted edition is not accepted as a replacement of the original edition.
    • Processing fee.
  1. The library provides a reminder slip for pupils with library accountabilities. Pupils should settle their accountabilities once they receive the slip.
  2. Pupils with existing library accountabilities cannot borrow books unless the accountabilities are cleared.    

 

Faculty

  1. Silence must be observed.

  3. The library is mainly for research.  Eating, sleeping and discussions among faculty members and with the pupils are strongly discouraged.
  4. Faculty members are requested not to leave their things at the faculty area.

LIBRARY POLICIES

Pupils

Violation of the library rules such as not returning books on time, lending and borrowing books for friends, defacing or mutilating books, stealing library properties and other violations are punishable by loss of library privileges, payment of the cost of the defaced or mutilated material, fines, or upon the discretion of the librarian.

Faculty

ON RESERVE BOOKS

All library-owned materials with the exception of the General Reference materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks and others may be placed on reserve upon teacher’s request

ON REFERENCE SERVICE

  1. Faculty members will be referred to all possible sources of information in their reference and research needs and in the preparation of their syllabi.
  2. Faculty members should inform the librarian ahead of time before assigning certain readings/research topics to pupils, to enable her to prepare the needed materials.
  3. Faculty members should fill out the Library Reservation Form at least three (3) working days before bringing/sending pupils to the library during class hours. They should stay with their pupils during the duration of the library activity. Giving instructions to pupils should be done in their respective classrooms.

ON CIRCULATION

  1. Faculty members may borrow a maximum of 15 titles of books on subjects taught for one month, renewable for another month. However, the library may recall/hold the books borrowed if needed by another client.
  2. Faculty members taking graduate courses, or enrolled in other courses shall be subject to the same regulations governing graduate students and students of other departments.
  3. Faculty members are discouraged to borrow books for other members of their family or friends.
  4. General Reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries atlases, maps, globes, and others are for “Library Use Only”. However, these can be borrowed for “Classroom Use”.
  5. Generally, periodicals are for “Library Use Only”, however these can be borrowed for “Classroom Use”.
  6. Faculty members with unreturned books/library materials cannot borrow books/library materials unless they return/renew them.
  7. Unreturned materials on a given deadline are considered lost and charges are computed and forwarded to the accounting office upon the consent of the concerned faculty member. After one (1) year, charges are non-refundable.
  8. Damaged/lost books must be reported immediately to the circulation desk/counter and to be replaced or paid within 30 days. Lost periodicals must be reported immediately to the librarian. Replacement of the same title and issue is preferred.
  9. During inventory period, teachers are discouraged to borrow books and other library materials.

INTERNET ACCESS

  1. Faculty members are enjoined to log-in and log-out when accessing online/electronic databases and other electronic resources in the Internet Access Area.
  2. Original copies of CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs and others are for “Library Use Only”. These can be viewed in the Internet Access Area or through a personal laptop inside the library.
  3. Faculty members may borrow a maximum of five (5) CD copies on subjects taught for one week and can be renewed for another week provided there’s no prior request for them.
  4. For lost CDs, the borrower has to pay P200.00 which includes replacement and processing fee.
  5. Requests for personal copy of CDs, DVDs and others are strictly prohibited.

LIBRARY SERVICES

 

Pupils

  1. Reference/Information Service

            This is personal assistance given to pupils in their research  and information needs.

  1. Library Orientation

         This allows pupils to be aware of the resources and services that they can avail themselves,                 making them comfortable in using he library.

  1. Library Instruction

           This is designed to help pupils learn how to successfully navigate and use library resources,                promote lifelong learning, and improve research skills.

  1. Circulation Service

            This refers to the charging out library material to its borrower, receiving it upon return,                        and returning it to its proper location.  

  • Curbside Pickup – During the online education setup, this allows pupils to borrow books through the online appointment and pick them up at the Basak Campus second gate. Pupils may borrow a maximum of 5 books per Curbside pickup transaction. A request form (link: https://tiny.cc/usjrcurbside) should be filled out at least three (3) working days before the day of pick-up.
  • Book Drop – Pupils may return books through the library drop box placed in the first gate waiting area.

5. Library Displays/Exhibits

This allows pupils to be aware of newly acquired library materials available for use. Displays/exhibits may also be done upon the request of a teacher in consonance with educational activities or celebrations.

6. Internet Access

This allows pupils to access the internet for free. However, the use of the internet is limited to educational and research purposes only.

This service is under circulation service together with Online renewal.

7. Storytelling

Stories teach about life, ourselves, and others. This service helps pupils develop understanding, respect, and appreciation for others.

             

Faculty

1. Reference/Information

This is personal assistance given to faculty members in their research and information needs.

2. Bibliographic Service

Listing of books and other materials on specific subjects of interest is provided by the library upon the request of the faculty members.

3. Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)

  • Current Awareness– This is the ongoing dissemination of information to the faculty and the rest of the academic community about newly-acquired books and other library materials.
  • Library Notification – This service is for faculty members who recommend books to be acquired. They get notified and invited to visit the library at their most convenient time once the recommended books are already available for use.

4. Informative Drive                                                                                                                                                                                                      This is a yearly service of the library for:

  • Helping faculty members gain a better understanding of the key role of the library in instruction;
  • Becoming acquainted with the library’s resources, services, facilities, and technological tools made available for their use;
  • Enhancing faculty-library relations

5. Circulation Service

This is concerned with the following activities: charging out the material to the borrower, receiving it upon return, and returning it to its proper location

  • Reserve Book Service– The library accepts personal copies of books from faculty members to be placed on “Reserve” and these are for “Library Use Only”
  • Online Renewal– Faculty members who may need to renew borrowed library materials may do so online.
  • Hold Request– Faculty members may request “Hold” on currently borrowed library materials through OPAC access using /her account by clicking on the “Place Hold” button.
  • Curbside Pickup – During the online education setup, this allows faculty members to borrow books through the online appointment and pick them up at the Basak Campus second gate.   • Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

            This is for the online browsing of our physical library collection

This is a fun, interactive database of encyclopedia articles, multimedia, games, activities, and ebooks. The update is done at least thrice a month to provide access to current events and issues.
