About the University

The University of San Jose–Recoletos traces its roots back to 1947 when the Augustinian Recollects established the Colegio de San Jose–Recoletos in Cebu City, Philippines. Founded with a mission to provide quality Catholic education, the institution grew steadily in academic reputation and infrastructure. Over the years, it expanded its programs to meet the evolving needs of society while upholding the Recollect tradition of intellectual and spiritual formation. It became known for fostering academic excellence, character development, and community involvement, preparing students to become compassionate leaders and active contributors to societal progress.

In 1984, the school was granted university status and formally recognized as the University of San Jose–Recoletos, further solidifying its prominence in the region. Throughout its history, USJ–R has continuously developed cutting-edge programs, built modern facilities, and formed strategic partnerships locally and abroad. Despite its growth, the university remains true to its founding principles of faith, service, and excellence, as envisioned by the Augustinian Recollects. Today, it continues to cultivate a culture of holistic education, shaping generations of graduates who uphold the university’s commitment to truth and service.
