January 6, 2020Lorraine Mitzi Ambrad

The HUMSS United Leaders Association of the University of San Jose-Recoletos is calling on HUMMS students across Region VII to join the First Central Visayas Alliance of HUMSS Students (CVAHS).

It is a regional convention of students enrolled in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS) strand in private Senior High Schools and selected public Senior High Schools across Metro Cebu. It primarily aims to establish the first-ever regional federation of Senior High School students in the country.

✔️ Public SHS HUMSS students in Metro Cebu (Cebu City, Lapu-lapu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga City, San Fernando)
✔️ Josenians (15 students per group only)
— USJ-R SHS HUMSS Alumni

As stated in the event primer, the first CVAHS highlights cultural expositions, plenary sessions, focused group discussions, the election of federation officials and representatives, social science tour, and turnover ceremonies. This creates an avenue to empower and activate initiatives to foster humanity, celebrate diversity and promote the HUMMS strand. It will also gather HUMSS students who take pride in various involvements such as campus journalism, photography, fine arts, leadership and community engagement.

The activity will also (1) immerse the HUMSS students to the marginalized sectors; (2) foster collaboration to discuss each school’s best practices, and (3) mobilize their roles in their schools towards the society. Moreover, the plenary sessions and focused group discussions will focus on issues concerning the society, and the Humanities and Social Sciences.

This activity is one of the highlights for the We Are HUMSS Month 2020 slated on January 29 and 30. It responds to the Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals because it cultivates collaboration towards the self-actualization of the human person.
