One of the baristas wounded is a 4th year Josenian computer engineering student, Sherwin Dean Rivera. Aside from being a student leader, the 23-year-old lad is working full-time at the Good Cup Coffee Company.

At the time of writing, Rivera is already in a stable condition.

This act of violence which claimed two lives is unjustifiable and must be dealt with accordingly in the court of law. USJ-R urges all sectors to work together to achieve a swift resolution to the case.

We also call on the Cebuano community to pray for the recovery of our student and his other co-worker. Furthermore, let us also pray for strength for the bereaved family of the coffee shop co-owner and another graduating student who lost their lives. Foremost, we pray for justice.

All Josenian students are insured by the university so the students can get assistance in case of emergency.

To date, USJ-R has informed its insurance company about the incident and facilitating the accident insurance claim. Covered by the insurance is an accident medical reimbursement and daily hospital income benefits. The University is coordinating with Rivera’s family so they can avail of the said aid.
