Through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the University of San Jose – Recoletos opened an additional off-campus masters degree program in Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ).
The MOA was signed between USJ-R and Knowles Electronics Corporation, a multinational company last July 3, 2017. The agreement provided for the holding of Master in Business Management (MBM) classes in the premises of Knowles.
Knowles Electronic (Philippines) Corporation is an international firm registered in the Philippines. It manufactures microphones, speakers, and hearing aid components.
The 25 students presently enrolled in this MBM program come from different companies in MEPZ.
Mr. Joseph Emmanuel Liwag, Managing Director of Knowles Philippines expressed his gratitude for USJ-R’s initiative in terms of taking the challenge in this innovative way of conducting classes.
“I think the University took the initiative in most of the schools we’ve talked to in terms of bridging the gap between academe. We appreciate your being open to discussions about opportunities and modified approaches to cater to us in supporting our students to get this opportunity to learn,” Liwag said.
The program aims to give convenience to those who want to finish their Master’s Degree in Business Management yet have a hard time in going to USJ-R. The program sends USJ-R Business Management professors to conduct classes in Knowles every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6pm to 9pm.
The program doesn’t only cater to Knowles employees who like to enroll master’s degree on Business Management and Administration but also accept students from neighboring Mepza companies who wish to have their master’s degree in USJ-R.
Last 2015, USJ-R conducted a short-term management proficiency program exclusively for the managers and supervisors of Knowles.
With the new off-campus MBM program at Knowles, USJ-R’s graduate education has become more accessible to MEPZ employees who wish to pursue graduate studies.
The other industry partner of USJ-R in MEPZ is TIMEX Phils. which has also served as venue for its masteral classes in more than a decade now.
