About the School of Arts and Sciences

The School of Arts and Sciences, formerly called the College of Liberal Arts, was conceptualized in the year 1947. In 1948, the college was organized, and by 1950, the college was fully acknowledged by the Department of Education.

  • In 1979, under the leadership of Dr. Milagros Castillo-Espina, the “College of Liberal Arts” became the “College of Arts and Sciences.”
  •  In 1981, the College of Arts and Sciences passed its first PAASCU accreditation evaluation.
  •  In 2020, the “College of Arts and Sciences” nomenclature was changed to ” School of Arts and Sciences.”

Objectives

The prime goal of the School is the maximum development of the students toward self-realization and the observance of ethical and moral standards of behavior within the framework of Christian Living. The SAS curricula assist students to:

  • Acquire a profound understanding and appreciation of their own familial, social, and cultural background and of the worthiness of all persons as members of society;
  • Cultivate skills in interpersonal and group relationships, and recognize the importance of and the need for humaneness in social interactions;
  • Develop and use skills in the logical processes of research, analysis, evaluation,
    problem solving, critical thinking, and the understanding of abstractions, and their application, among others;
  • Hone and apply skills required for participation in the process of public and private political organizations, and in influencing decisions made by such organizations;
  • Radiate a positive attitude toward work and experience; and
  • Increase their ability to uphold and disseminate values that contribute to their feelings of competence and sense of identity.
