The University of San Jose-Recoletos is now an official venue of an English proficiency test which is a vital requirement in going to English-speaking countries.
USJ-R President Fr. Cristopher Maspara, OAR signed an agreement yesterday with Maria Aurora Dela Viña, country director of the International Development Program (IDP), making USJ-R as IDP’s first and only testing center in the region for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
“IELTS is very relevant because of the dream of many Filipinos of having a bright future in countries where English is used as the language of communication,” Dela Viña said.
The IDP country director said IELTS is required for those who would want to migrate, find employment or study in English-speaking countries like the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
IDP is a co-owner of IELTS and a world leader in facilitating IELTS examinations across the globe for 45 years now.
English proficiency test
IELTS measures the English language proficiency of people who would want to study or work in English-speaking countries.
The test is conducted in two parts: speaking test and writing (which also covers listening and reading).
IELTS test fee is pegged at P9,300.
The first IELTS exams to be held at USJ-R will be on March 25. One may contact USJ-R for registration at tel. no. 253-7900 loc. 325 and 327 or go directly to the IDP website.
Fr. Maspara, who called the partnership with IDP as a “grace from heaven”, said USJ-R would be wise to develop a deeper relationship with IDP so that it could integrate IELTS into its curriculum.
“It is my dream for this institution not only to become an IELTS testing center but to also grow into becoming an IELTS review center and consider using IELTS as a pedagogical tool and enrich the university curriculum by integrating IELTS across discipline,” he said.
“This will give our students big advantage and greater opportunity for employment and add value to our institution’s academic programs.”
According to the agreement, USJ-R will provide appropriate room and basic amenities for the conduct of IELTS tests on agreed upon dates following the standard specifications of IELTS test administration.
Required standard amenities that are found in USJ-R classrooms include soundproof, air-conditioned rooms equipped with laptop, LCD projector and screen; audiovisual equipment with clear sound system and microphone; and internet connection among others. IPA
