USJ-R trains catechists from 16 parishes in Northern Cebu

June 29, 2023Lorraine Mitzi Ambrad

Parish Catechists from the Far North District Catechetical Ministry of the Archdiocese of Cebu were immersed in a two-day seminar and workshop on how to provide basic faith formation orientation.

Participants number to 180 parish catechists and 2 parish priests, from a total of 16 parishes.

The San Isidro Labrador Parish in Maya, Daanbantayan, Cebu, led by their parish priest and director of North District Catechetical Ministry, Rev. Fr. Ralph Perez, has taken the initiative to host this seminar-workshop, recognizing the importance of empowering catechists in their mission to provide quality faith formation within their communities.

Throughout the two-day event, participants take part in interactive sessions, workshops, and discussions.

The program covered a wide range of topics including effective teaching strategies, the principles of catechesis, and the fundamentals of our Catholic Faith. This comprehensive approach aims at deepening their understanding and enhance their teaching techniques.

This event is conducted by the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Senior High School Christian Life Formation Cluster Faculty in coordination with the Campus Ministry Staff from Basak Campus. It aims to equip catechists with essential knowledge and skills for their vital role in the Church.

With the accompaniment and mentorship of CLF faculty from USJ-R, catechists are engaged in a program designed to elevate their proficiency as educators and spiritual mentors while incorporating technology to enhance catechetical instruction.

The Basic Orientation Seminar-Workshop for Parish Catechists exemplifies the commitment of the Archdiocese and USJ-R to nurturing faith, spreading the Gospel, and empowering individuals to become effective evangelizers within their communities.
