The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) is celebrating its 75th founding anniversary this year.
Looking back, the petition to set up a Recollect School in Cebu City was first approved by the Archdiocese of Cebu on March 28, 1947. Then, the petition was formally approved by the provincial council of the Recollects in Spain on May 27, 1947. Hence, the Colegio de San Jose – Recoletos opened its first school year on July 7, 1947. It was in 1984 that CSJ-R was granted university status and carried the name University of San Jose – Recoletos.
This 2022, USJ-R marks this historical milestone with a series of events to gather Josenians from different parts of the globe and revisit the University’s rich history.
