December 14, 2019Lorraine Mitzi Ambrad

Senior high school students and teachers with sustainable development-themed studies are called on to submit their research papers and join the 2nd Josenian SHS Research Summit.

“This undertaking is an exposition of the best academic researches from the two SHS Tracks: Academic Track (ABM, HUMSS, & STEM) and Technical-Vocational Track. For this year, we also open this summit not just to USJR SHS students but to all SHS all over Cebu Province,” read the event primer.

It is slated on February 19 and 20 next year.

The objectives of this activity are (1) to inspire and engage Senior High School students to a meaningful, interactive, and holistic activities through exposure of ideas and exchange of best practices among students; (2) to facilitate participants to collaborate and establish sustainable partnerships in the area of research through research exhibit; and (3) to acknowledge students with outstanding research proposals and showcase their research studies and to enhance the presentation skills and expertise of the student-researchers.

There are six competitions to join in namely:

  • Capstone Fest. The summit will provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their technical skills and to showcase their innovative ideas and breakthrough inventions through their prototypes made out of their capstone projects.
  • Business Expo. The summit will provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate the concepts, underlying principles, processes and implementation of their business plans, as they showcase their innovative products and entrepreneurial technical skills.
  • Research Poster Presentation. The summit will exhibit relevant research concepts and revolutionary ideas from various strands and tracks through a display of research posters. This exhibit will particularly show the significance and contribution of the presenters’ research work in their chosen discipline.
  • Young Innovators’ Forum. The summit will give the students the unique opportunity to meet leader/s, experts, and practitioners across various fields and interest to thoroughly discuss their research undertakings, their success stories, and their tips on making a significant contribution to the planet. This will help students boost their confidence and creativity in stirring out ideas and in taking a vital role towards achieving sustainable development.
  • Research Mentors’ Training. This academic instruction development program is where research advisers and statisticians convene and will get an opportunity to immerse into a pedagogical improvement discourse. This will also be a learning enhancement initiative for where they are trained on the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude as a mentor-researcher.
