OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Fake ID used for unauthorized solicitation

November 7, 2019Lorraine Mitzi Ambrad
Through a news report which came out today, it came to our attention that a person, who claims to be a student of USJ-R and USC, is going around and asking for monetary help from different institutions in Cebu.
This person identifies himself with different names such as Christian Castro and Philip Arabejo. To convince his victims, he shows them a fake school ID bearing the name of USJ-R or USC.
Yesterday, a friend of a public school teacher in Tisa contacted USJ-R to verify whether the ID shown was legitimate. We denied the legitimacy of the ID based on the picture sent to us. As seen in a CCTV footage of a school in Tisa, this person evaded when he was apprehended by the school guard.
In our initial investigation, the real identity of this person is Joselito Dela Cerna Paras Jr.
What he did is a violation of Article 178 of the Revised Penal Code. The university administration is eyeing the possibility of filing charges against this person.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos puts high regard on the value of integrity. To protect the public from this modus, we are sharing to you the key features of our school ID.

1. The student in the photo is wearing our official school uniform.
2. The printed font is clear.
3. An RFID sticker is posted at the back.
4. IDs issued from 2017 and beyond have an embedded barcode.
We also appeal to the concerned government agencies to help us spread awareness that there are individuals going around and pretending to be part of a certain institution for their personal benefit.
In addition, we encourage the public to report to the police if they have encountered a modus similar to this.
