USJ-R reopens playground at Basak campus

August 30, 2019Mariah Taniza

After getting a fresh look, the playground of the USJ-R elementary department was reopened this year.

The materials and equipment used for the playground are child-friendly and are not hazardous according to Campus Planning. During the construction, the department heads made sure that the playground is safe and that all the sides are covered with foam to avoid injuries.

It was first opened in 2018.  It was closed because it was affected by the construction of the La Salud building.

Elementary Principal Jergen D. Orias said that it has been their long-time dream to open a playground like this for the children to enjoy. She said that the playground is a very good addition to the department and is also a good marketing strategy because it is the first thing that visitors notice.

Every time some outsiders visit the campus, Orias said that people always praise the facility.

“I often hear children say: Mommy nice kayo diri because nice ila playground,” she shared.

Orias explained that play is an important part of the growing life of the children. When playing, children develop important aspects most especially social, physical, and intellectual. When children utilize the equipment found in the playground, they develop an understanding of how things work especially for the pre-school students.

The children can play inside freely but there are guidelines that are stipulated. Aside from what is posted inside the playground, advisers were instructed to explain the guidelines to the children before letting them play inside.

There is no age limit as to who can use the playground. As long it is a grade school or a pre-school student of USJ-R, he or she can play for free.
