Two Josenians top May 2018 CPA Board Exam

May 31, 2018contributor09

This month, two Josenians were added to the total list of 69 Josenian topnotchers of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure examination since 1960.

Princess Gumanit and Ma. Lucille Ferrer landed 8th and 10th place in the recently concluded 3-day CPA Licensure Examinations held last May 13, 20, and 21, 2018. The two garnered 89.50 and 89.17-percent grade respectively. Both Gumanit and Ferrer explained that to be in the top 10 was just a bonus for merely passing the examination was the ultimate goal.

When asked about how she felt the moment she received the news Ferrer said she had uncontainable emotions.

“It was really unexplainable; I didn’t know what to do,” she said.

“The exams were very difficult, especially during the second day. Most of the people cried- including me,” Gumanit agreed.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) has consistently produced topnotchers for four years in a row, since 2015, in the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examinations.

Gumanit said that what makes USJ-R unique as a university is that it has supportive faculty members who never stop inspiring their students.

“Sa ka grabe sa support nila (teachers) maikog nalang ka nga dili ka mag tarong ug mu give sa imong best,” says Gumanit.

The two were academic scholars in their undergraduate studies and both graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Training

USJ-R CPA Review Center Director Brian Alenton explained the serious and tedious review process that the CPA reviewers underwent before finally taking the licensure exams.

“Since the start of their undergrad (years), we’re trying to fill the gaps and cover the topics needed for the syllabus for the exam,” he pointed out.

Moreover, he also said that additional training is set for their fifth year. The students will face another difficult phase in their accountancy life.

“They’ll be having a review, like weekly quizzes. It’s been monitored to ensure that their performance in the exam will be more or less assured.”

Dr. Edgar Detoya, Dean of the USJ-R College of Commerce, expressed his feeling of fulfillment for another achievement by Josenian graduates.

“I feel happy. I feel fulfilled that the efforts of our Accounting teachers and administrators are being paid off.”

USJ-R is the only Center of Development in Accountancy grantee in the Visayas.

“Achieving this accomplishment such as having places in the top ten is one proof that we have been able to live out with the distinction,” Detoya added.

Unbiversity President Rev. Fr. Christopher Maspara, OAR commended the good performance of the Accountancy Department.

“Accountancy Department really produces topnotchers. It means that the quality of instruction of the department is really good,” he said.

Gumanit and Ferrer will be recognized during the Mass of the Holy Spirit on June and will receive Php50, 000 cash from the university as incentives.
