The USJ-R Computer-Aided Design Laboratory was unveiled jointly by USJ-R and Tsuneishi on February 6, 2024.
It is located on the ground floor of San Nicolas Building, beside the Human Resource and Management Office.
Tsuneishi donated six computers along with licensed CADMATIC software for utilization of Josenian engineering students. The software is used for 3D design which can be used for designing ships, industrial plants, and related information management. These have become part of the 43-unit computer setup inside the Engineering Computer Laboratory 3.
University President Rev. Fr. Eduardo Celiz, OAR said that this development symbolizes the commitment to enhance technological advancement and the commitment to strengthen the partnership between the two institutions.
Tsuneishi Technical Services Philippines President Segismundo Exaltacion Jr. expressed that they want to bring what Tsuneishi is doing in their organization to the academe because he acknowledges that the future manpower comes from the academe.
Tsuneishi plans to add more computer units with Cadmatic software in the future.

A 22-year-old graduate of civil engineering from the University of San Jose-Recoletos ranked fifth in the 2023 November Civil Engineers Licensure Examination with ra rating of 91.50%.
Engr. Analiza Mabini expressed that she was surprised to see her name as part of the topnotchers list. She is the lone topnotcher in Central Visayas and one of only two outside Luzon.
“If God wills it, he will give it. That’s why I’m here today because He gave me this gift,” she said.
The topnotcher recalled that she cried after the exam because she finds it hard and feels like she fell short in her goal to be part of the top 10. Upon reading the results posted by the Professional Regulation Commission today, November 25, she burst into tears as she called her family.
Mabini is from Palompon, Leyte. She opted to study in Cebu and picked USJ-R. She is also thankful to the scholarship grant of USJ-R to students who finished senior high school with honors, which she credited as one of the reasons why she picked the University.
In 2023, she finished as Summa Cum Laude with the degree Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structural Engineering. Mabini added that her education in USJ-R gave her a strong foundation in understanding complex engineering concepts which she has to solve during the exam.
Civil Engineering Department Chair Elvira Sales shared that USJ-R provides an intensive program and industry experience to provide optimal learning conditions to their students.
According to the USJ-R Vice President for Academics & Research, Mabini will receive P75,000 and a brand new laptop as a reward.
The last time that USJ-R has a topnotcher in the field of civil engineering was in 2019 according to Engineering Dean Dennis Kilongkilong.

A graduate of the BS Accountancy program of the University of San Jose-Recoletos ranked first in the September-October 2023 Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA).
Hebban Tawantawan finished with a LECPA rating of 91.17%. He is the third Josenian who secured the Top 1 spot in the said licensure exam. Moreover, he is the 50th Josenian who made it in the list of CPA topnotchers.
He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of BS Accountancy. He finished his studies in December 2022.
A press conference was organized by the USJ-R Public Affairs and International Relations Office to honor its graduate and share the joyous moment to the Josenian community. The Vice President for Academics and Research (VPAR), CPA Review Center Director, Dean of School of Business & Management, Accountancy Department chair during Tawantawan’s time and some faculty members joined the new passer.
To reward him, VPAR announced that he will be rewarded with P100,000 and a brand-new laptop.
In USJ-R, the final semester is dedicated for a review program embedded in the BSA curriculum which Tawantawan credited as a crucial part of his formation. To look back, he also visited the Accountancy students who are doing their review at the USJ-R CPA Review Center and shared an inspirational message. He also showed to the media where he usually sits in the CPA Review library to study.
Meanwhile, USJ-R ranked fourth in the whole country in terms of schools with over 50 takers. USJ-R produced 54 new CPA passers and has a passing percentage of 62.79%, almost twice the national passing rate.

A memorandum was circulated earlier today, September 11, stating that there shall be no activities and no interruption of classes one week before major exams (PRELIM, MIDTEM AND FINALS).
Online activities are also prohibited.
Activity Ban Week is implemented so students can focus on academic activities to catch up and complete the coverage needed for the upcoming examination. CWTS and NSTP will continue with their classes or exams on the scheduled Saturdays. Liturgical Celebrations are allowed and tutorials can be done this week.
This move is approved by the School Board and will take effect beginning this first semester, AY 2023-2024.
Aside from the Activity Ban Week, every Friday after a major exam is declared as a Josenian’s Mental Health Day. It will be a Student Activities and Services Day (SAS) or a Recovery Day. There will be no suspension of classes, but there will be various activities organized by Student Organizations, SSC, OSAS, SDPC & CMO.
Activities shall be “in campus”. Organizations shall coordinate with the Office of the Student Affairs & Services (OSAS).
The organizations will closely monitor attendance since Mental Health Day is considered a class day. Those plotted activities shall be adjusted, and organizations must have coordination and collaborative meetings to address possible concerns.
There will be no Activity Letter needed. Students are advised to closely coordinate with Maria Elena Yumang, Student Activity Officer from the OSAS, in securing the Activity Permit Slip to track the activities and the reservation of venues.
Milan Wednesday is temporarily suspended. The Office of the Vice President for Academics and Research will announce if there is a necessity to have a Milan Wednesday.

The Liturgical Yodelers Recoletos (LYRE) was proclaimed as grand champion yesterday in the 13th Huniño organized by Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu.
This is the first time that the said group participated in the said competition.
Huniño — Huni Halad Alang Kang Señor Santo Niño is a liturgical songwriting competition where various groups pour their souls into a melodious praise for the Holy Child, Señor Santo Niño.
LYRE trainer Jundel Bacalso said that they trained for three months in order to prepare for the said competition. He added that it was challenging to train because LYRE members are also regular students; hence, it was hard to find a common time to practice. The group also had a tough time finding a place to rehearse their harmony and musicality.
“Lipay gyud kaayo mi kay 40th (anniversary) pud namo. Natagaan pa mig blessing for our celebration,” Bacalso expressed.
LYRE is celebrating its 40th year as a choral group which primarily focuses on liturgical services. It is a volunteer group under the USJ-R Campus Ministry Office. They were founded in July 16, 1983. A celebration will be staged on August 27, 2023 at the Talavera House of Prayer. Current and alumni LYRE members are invited to come.

The President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) personally visited the University of San Jose-Recoletos on September 15 to strengthen the existing linkage between the two institutions.
STUST President Deng Maw-Lu was accompanied by their Vice President Te-Kuan Chou and International Relations Director Aaron Raymond See. On the side of USJ-R, representatives from the School of Computer Studies(SCS), School of Arts and Sciences(SAS), Senior High School Department(SHS), and Public Affairs & International Relations (PAIR) joined. The University President, Vice President for Academics, and Basic Education Director were also present.
“It is the vision of the current administration to continually strengthen the research-based curriculum which will help our students respond to the needs of the society, making their academic endeavors more relevant,” said USJ-R President Father Eduardo Celiz Jr., OAR.
Maw-Lu concurred with Celiz. In his response speech, he emphasized the value of the connection between the two schools like how some of the students who benefitted in the partnership have excelled in national competitions or pursued further studies outside the Philippines.
STUST and USJ-R has been academic partners since 2018 through SCS, then-called the College of Information, Communication, and Computer Technology(CICCT). Since then, the two have undertaken several collaborations together such as organizing the International Project-Based Learning (IPBL) with emphasis on Internet of Things (IoT) and providing scholarships for qualified Josenian graduates so they may study in Taiwan.
The two universities explored the successful endeavors because of the partnership, faculty development, and what other areas can both explore together in preparation for the renewal of the partnership agreement in 2023. STUST expressed its intent to expand their ties particularly with SAS and SHS.
