Josenian Ryan Christopher Calaunan was named second runner-up in the national level Search for the Philippines’ Brightest Buwis Masters of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
He is a third year BS Accountancy student in the University of San Jose-Recoletos. He represented Cebu City (BIR RR 13) in the said national competition held on July 28 at the BIR National Training Center Auditorium in Quezon City. Including Calaunan, there were 22 contestants which represented the 22 BIR Revenue Regions (BIR RR).
Prior to the national event, Calaunan won as the regional champion by besting 77 students from various institutions all over Cebu and Bohol. Two other Josenians, Heaven Sofia Daclan and Cara Patrice Paganas, placed second and third respectively in the regional level. This part of the competition was held on July 6, 2023 at Seda Ayala Center Cebu.
The participants faced challenging rounds of tax-related quizzes and examinations designed to assess their knowledge of the tax laws, specifically pertaining to Income Tax, Value-Added Tax and Percentage Tax, as well as the BIR’s registration requirements.
