A new campus of the University of San Jose-Recoletos will soon rise along Colon Street, Cebu City.
It will be called the USJ-R Quadricentennial Campus. Within the said property, a 17-storey building will be constructed and be called Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Building. Hence, the groundbreaking took place earlier today, December 8, which is the feast day of Immaculate Conception.
It will be the tallest among all USJ-R buildings. At present, the tallest one is the La Salud Building in Basak Campus which has seven storeys. The USJ-R administration eyes the project to be completed in next three years.
Currently, there are two campuses bearing the USJ-R brand in Cebu City namely USJ-R Main Campus along Magallanes Street and USJ-R Basak Campus along N. Bacalso National Highway. In addition, a satellite campus in Balamban also carries the Josenian brand of education.
University President Cristopher Maspara, OAR said that this new campus will be the gift of the Augustinian Recollects to the future learners who will study in USJ-R. He added that it will not only address the scarcity of classrooms but also level-up the service which the institution provides to its students.
During the ceremony, Property Administrator Rev. Fr. Arian Josef Ocheda, OAR shared that the building will have a total floor area over 30,000 square meters. It will house commercial spaces, parking spaces, libraries, laboratories, multipurpose halls, chapel, cafeteria, museum, business hub, sports facilities, and employees’ wellness center.
In addition, the Immaculate Conception Building has “green building features” such as its own sewage treatment plant and water recycling facility.
