Former USJ-R volleyball player Beatrice Luigi Gomez bested 53 other ladies and bagged the 2020 Binibining Cebu crown on January 13.
She also won Best in Swimwear as well as two corporate awards namely Miss Foton and Miss Body Worx Medical Spa. During the question and answer portion, she was asked what makes her beautiful.
“What makes me beautiful is my bravery and being true to myself,” she answered.
Gomez said that the pageant ran for 6 months. She had to make sure that she was physically, mentally and emotionally ready. Prior to the screening process, she enrolled herself into a one on one speech and communication workshop. She studied up and read extensively about random topics such as social issues, politics, and commerce. She also experimented and practiced her walk. She immersed herself in speaking engagements to overcome her fear of public speaking. Meanwhile, she diverted her stress and pressure by working out at the gym.
“The mantra I learned to live by just recently is a saying that goes: You won’t always be motivated or inspired so you must learn to be disciplined,” she added.
The beauty queen recalled that she dreamed of serving in the police force or becoming a lawyer. However, her grandmother wanted her to become a beauty queen and would constantly encourage her to take care of her skin especially her legs to become flawless.
In 2010, she joined and won her first-ever beauty title as Ms. Cebu City Olympics at age 15. Prior to that, she has worked as a model for two years.
In college, she studied at the University of San Jose-Recoletos and pursued a degree in Mass Communications. On the side, she also became one of the varsity players for volleyball. However, certain circumstances made her stop going to college. She expressed that she has plans to continue her studies and earn a diploma when circumstances allow.
