The Josenian Nursing community gathered for the 13th Capping and Badging Investiture held last July 13 at the chapel of the University of San Jose-Recoletos, main campus.
The half-day affair started with a mass presided by Rev. Fr. Leo G. Alaras, OAR, the university’s Vice President for Academics.
According to 2nd year Nursing student Mike Carpentero, the capping and badging is a send-off ceremony for him and his colleagues.
“This is done during our second year before mi mag-start og duty,” he said.
There were five more candidates for the said ceremony. They were Mark Manubag, Julia Robin Paguia, Jollina Anne Lagnasan, Meryl Katriel Pedroza, and Leizl Mauricio.
As stated by Dr. Audrey Verano, Dean of the College of Nursing, the cap for female nurses and the badge for male nurses both symbolize the duty and commitment along with acceptance, humility, and the ability to work on the area assigned to a nurse.
“The nurses’ cap and badge are symbols of servitude, respectability, and responsibility- a sign of tradition and service,” Verano said.
When asked of how she felt at the moment (after the capping), Meryl Katriel Perdoza expressed her happiness.
“I am overwhelmed. Although capping siya-it might seem like a little ra sa uban, but for us man gud, it is not only the cap nga gita-od, but the added responsibility for our calling,” she said.
