The University of San Jose – Recoletos has qualified for the Journal Incubation Grant, under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Journal Incentives Program (JIP).
The CHED-JIP motivates local higher education institutions to produce and publish high quality research journals. The program also intends to pursue research integrity and honesty. The program also ensures that Philippine Journals adhere to international standards.
“The program aims to assist us to come up with internationally acceptable publications. The JIP is trying to assist universities like us to come up with publications that can be acceptable or that can be ISI and Scorpus indexed,” said Dr. Agnes Sequiño, Director for the Center for Policy, Research, and Development studies(CPDRS).
The CPDRS has been holding seminars and enabling activities to prepare for the JIP, since CHED Memorandum order No. 53 was released last year. Efforts to provide each of the requirements to qualify for the Journal Incubation (JI) category.
Qualifying in the JI category entails receiving support for promising journals towards the path to meet the minimum generally accepted standards to be included in Scorpus or Web of Science database. Moreover, JI qualifiers will also get an amount of Php 400,000 each year, for a period of three years.
According to Sequiño, the grant would be used for more training and preparation for the next JIP category which the university plans to qualifying in the JC category (Journal Challenge). At present, the Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal (RMRJ) is internationally recognized because it has been given the grant of category A by CHED.
“Authors may have the ideas how to write and how to address gaps in knowledge, but what we may able to see from the views of other scholars is more important, so pay review process is very important. We’re hoping that with the grant that is given to us, we would be able to train more faculty members to come up with internationally acceptable papers,” she continued.
