USJ-R, through its technical-vocational training arm Recoletos Industrial and Technological Training Center (RITTC), partnered with the only garden hotel in Cebu City for the facilitation of on-the-job trainees to the hotel.
USJ-R President Rev. Fr. Cristopher Maspara, OAR signed the agreement with Capt. Alfredo Diano Jr., human resource manager of Montebello Villa Hotel, yesterday at the President’s Office for students of USJ-R, specifically those undergoing RITTC trainings, to have their OJT there.
“We welcome this partnership because there is really a need for more manpower in the hotel industry,” Capt. Diano said during the agreement signing.
Based on the agreement, graduates of RITTC whose line of employment fall under the tourism sector like bread and pastry production, housekeeping, cookery, food and beverages, and front office, among others will spend a minimum of 1 thousand OJT hours at Montebello for a duration of four to six months.
Also present and acted as witnesses to the agreement were Rev. Fr. James Bumangabang, OAR, USJ-R Vice President for Academics, and RITTC Director Dr. Mary Ann Roble.
“We are so thankful to Montebello for catering to our RITTC students who are mostly just high school graduates,” Dr. Roble said. “This will certainly boost their chances of better employment down the road.”
USJ-R established the RITTC to provide cost-effective tech-voc trainings and to serve as an avenue for endless opportunities for people of diverse background. Currently, Dr. Roble said, RITTC has almost 2 thousand enrolled students who will most likely benefit from the agreement.
The agreement has brought the hotel partners of USJ-R for OJT programs to two. In September last year, USJ-R inked a similar deal with Sarrosa International Hotel & Residential Suites. A similar deal is also in the pipeline as a 5-star hotel in Cebu City has reached out to RITTC for possible partnership.
Dr. Roble said those who will be deployed for their OJT are already graduates of the RITTC program and are therefore National Certificate (NC) holders. However, they will still need actual work experience before they can be hired and the OJT program provides them exactly that.
Capt. Diano said they will coordinate with RITTC for the monitoring of student performance. “We will meet regularly with Dr. Roble for periodic evaluation of our students,” he added.
