A company engaged in the business of supplying machinery products, manpower outsourcing services and foundry partners with USJ-R for a program designed to enhance the competencies and skills of its top managers.
Product Equipment Resources and Trading, Inc. (PERT) taps USJ-R for the offering of an off-campus “Certificate of Management Proficiency Program” to 23 of its supervisors and managers. It will be handled by the university’s Graduate School professors, with classes to be held at PERT premises.
USJ-R President Rev. Fr. Cristopher Maspara, OAR signs the agreement with PERT President Engr. Godofredo Alcantara Jr. earlier this day at the Cebu Country Club.
“The strength of our people is fundamental in achieving the objectives of the company,” said Engr. Alcantara during the agreement signing. “I hope this training will improve their tools of being effective managers who can lead people entrusted under their care.”
The event was attended by Graduate School dean Dr. Edgar Detoya and PERT Vice President for Finance and Administration Victoria Cutamora who signed as witnesses. PERT managers who are to be enrolled in the program were also there.
Dr. Detoya said the certificate program is geared toward personal and professional development of the managers. It is divided into several modules, covering subject matters like marketing management, operations management, financial management, strategic management, values and ethics, among others.
Its first module, effective communication and personality management, will be handled by former College of Arts and Sciences dean Dr. Milagros Espina.
Cutamora said top managers to be enrolled in the program come from the accounting, human resource, logistics, and purchasing departments, among others.
“Since we consider our people as the best asset of the company, we have to train and develop them to become more effective leaders,” she said.
PERT is a company engaged in the business of supplying machinery products, manpower outsourcing services and foundry in power, cement, mining, shipping, logistics, entertainment, food and beverages, and process industries.
Dr. Detoya welcomed the partnership with PERT and urged the managers to get the most out of the trainings. He told them that they are on the right track, as other big companies are also partnering with USJ-R for the same staff development programs.
He revealed that USJ-R runs different off-campus programs for personnel of big companies like Knowles Electronics, Gaisano Corp., San Miguel Beer, Norkis, Timex, Chong Hua Hospital, Ceres buses, Cebu Real Estate Board and administrators of the Salesians of Don Bosco and Order of St. Augustine, among other partners.
“Our thrust is not just to confine ourselves to the four walls of the university,” he told PERT managers. “We are growing outside the school and we are holding classes and training sessions in the premises of our industry partners,” he said, explaining the nature of the off-campus program.
USJ-R, having been granted Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education since 2009, enjoys the privilege of offering off-campus programs to its industry partners.
